A total of �8m is to be spent improving and extending schools in Derbyshire to relieve pressure on growing areas. Belpher school will have a new art block costing �1.8m in the county council funded scheme.
Classrooms will also be built at Hilton Primary, Larklands Infant and Nursery School, Stenson Fields Primary, William Allit in Newhall and Woodville Infants.
The investment is to create more places for families moving to new estates.
Growing population
Improvements will also be made to Hasland Hall Community School, Chesterfield, Marlpool Junior School, Heanor, Simmondley Primary, Glossop and The Duke of Norfolk CE Primary, Glossop.
Councillor Alan Charles, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for education, said: "This money will allow the authority to carry out improvements at a number of schools across Derbyshire where there is pressure on space.
"Pupils at all the schools will benefit from the extra classrooms and facilities we are creating and I am pleased we have been able to help the schools where the pressure is greatest.
"This cash is good news for pupils, parents and staff and is thanks to continued funding from the government."
�746,000 has also been set aside to complete projects already under way at Cloudside Junior, Sandiacre, Ecclesbourne School, Duffield, Renishaw Primary, The Meadows Community School, near Chesterfield, and Town End Junior, Tibshelf.
