Ernie Harbon says he will fight on against the fine

Ernie Harbon, 62, from South Normanton in Derbyshire, was sent to prison for two weeks in January for refusing to pay a �60 fine.

Mr Harbon's supporters claim speed camera signs where he was caught did not have the correct wording.

A national newspaper has claimed the signs were not legal as it did not comply with current official guidance.

Legislative changes

Mr Harbon was caught on a mobile camera near his home doing 38mph in a 30mph zone.

He refused to pay the fine or costs as he claimed the limit was not clearly marked.

His stand has drawn national backing and now his supporters plan to challenge the conviction.

The signs near where he was caught said "Mobile police cameras" but should have read "Police Enforcement Cameras".

Derbyshire County Council, which put up the signs, has admitted legislation has changed since they were first approved.

But it says they are only advisory and should not have a bearing on a speeding conviction.
