Fell rescue teams in Cumbria were astonished to find a group of walkers from Thailand wearing cotton clothing and carrying suitcases - in a blizzard. The party of 10 were on Angle Tarn, near Borrowdale, when some began to suffer symptoms of hypothermia.
A helicopter joined Langdale Ambleside mountain volunteers and a passing party of school children in the rescue.
Rescue team deputy leader Keith Morgan urged visitors to the fells to take precautions before venturing out.
Mr Morgan said the Thai party were walking over the fells wearing cotton trousers, t-shirts, tracksuit tops and thin slip-on shoes.
They were also carrying wheeled suitcases and holdalls.
Two of them were treated for serious hypothermia.
Passing walkers
The temperature on the fells dipped to -2C on Thursday.
Earlier a teenage girl was airlifted off a fell after she also began to suffer from hypothermia.
The 15-year-old became cold and wet whilst walking from Brothers Water to Ambleside during a Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition.
Her team erected tents for shelter and passing walkers contacted the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team.
The girl was taken by Great North Air Ambulance to the rescue centre where she was treated by a doctor.
Members of the team guided the rest of the group down to the valley where they were reunited with the girl and their leaders.
