Flytippers to be named and shamed
Rubbish left by fly-tipping
Flytippers face being named and shamed by council
Flytippers are to be named and shamed in a new council crackdown.

Eden District Council has tracked down the names and addresses of culprits from letters found in illegal rubbish dumped at Appleby Recycling plant.

The council wants to put a plastics unit on the site, but the plan is under threat because piles of cardboard boxes are blocking access to the site.

Bosses are also threatening to install CCTV cameras at the site or remove recycling banks altogether.

'Shame them'

Councillor John Holliday, vice Chairman of the council's environment committee, said: "There is great demand in Appleby for plastics recycling and we would love to be able to meet that need by supplying a plastics bank.

"However, we can't risk adding to the problem - Appleby will not get a plastics bank until the dumping has stopped."

To tackle the problem letters have been sent to addresses uncovered among the rubbish.

The council is also considering going public with their names in a bid to shame them into cleaning up their act.

Councillor Holliday added: "It's very simple - if the dumping stops we could be looking at getting a plastics bank into Appleby this summer."
