Residents warned over flytipping
Householders are being warned to be on their guard against fly-by-night refuse collectors operating in a Lincs town.

Gainsborough residents are being offered refuse disposals costing from 10 to 60, but council bosses claim it is then often dumped illegally.

West Lindsey District Council is warning residents they may be prosecuted themselves following a spate of incidents.

It said a small group of people has been creating "havoc" in the town.

Bill Read, waste management enforcement officer, said large quantities of rubbish had also been dumped in nearby countryside.

Registered carriers

"If the council can discover whose rubbish has been dumped a visit by an enforcement officer can be expected," he added.

"The council will seek to recover the cost of clearing up and typically this will result in a bill of 100 and a fixed penalty of 50 is likely.

"Prosecution is also a possibility."

The council is urging people to find out where rubbish is going to go and if the person making the offer is a registered carrier.

"A small number of people are creating havoc in our town and countryside and we need to stop them," said Mr Read.
