Plans for a new 2,000-space car park at an existing temporary terminal at Coventry Airport have been approved. Proposals put forward by the airport's operators, TUI, were agreed by Warwick District Council at a meeting lasting more than three-and-a-half hours.
Management measures to reduce noise pollution were also approved on Monday.
The decision does not mean planning permission for the temporary passenger terminal has been granted as that will be decided by the government.
Noise controls
It was expanded last year without planning permission and retrospective consent sought by the airport has been refused.
The airport appealed, a public inquiry has been completed and a decision is due this year.
A second public inquiry into the council's refusal to grant planning permission for a permanent terminal is due to start next year.
The airport has put forward proposals which include restrictions on flying during certain hours - including banning noisier freight aircraft between 2330 BST and 0600 BST - noise controls and air quality monitoring.
The car park has been proposed for the south side of the airport.
Vehicles have been parked at the old entrance to the airport in Baginton village since budget airline Thomsonfly began passenger flights from the site in March last year.
