Airport 'grows' despite decision
Coventry Airport
The airport started budget flights in March
Coventry Airport's managing director says the business will continue to grow despite the local authority rejecting plans for a new passenger terminal.

The airport, which is to appeal, says it expects to get permission for a terminal at a public inquiry.

A Government inspector will now rule on the planning application after Warwick District Council turned it down on traffic, noise and pollution grounds.

Managing director Bill Savage says the airport still has a positive future.

He told BBC WM in Coventry and Warwickshire: "The airport has been here for nearly 70 years.

"It will be here for a lot longer than the next 70 years.

"The airport will increase all its business activities it legitimately can.

"This planning request is not about if the airport can grow. It's about a new passenger terminal.

"The future of the airport is bright whichever way you look at it."

Around 400 people went to Leamington Town Hall for the debate about the planning application on Saturday.

Budget airline Thomsonfly began passenger flights from the Baginton site in March from a temporary terminal.
