People in the Isles of Scilly are switching to ADSL broadband technology faster than anywhere in the country, BT has said. Figures released by the telecom firm show 47.2% of homes in the islands are switching to ADSL, ahead of Oxfordshire at 46.7% and Cornwall at 45.9%.
In Somerset and Buckinghamshire 45.7% of homes have ADSL broadband and 42.5% in Wiltshire.
Broadband is available via ADSL, cable TV, satellite or with a 3G card.
The most common way to get broadband is via ADSL.
The national average take-up rate for ADSL broadband is 31.2%, BT says.
A BT spokesman said broadband technology was helping people and businesses overcome problems encountered by living in remote locations.
