Funding crisis for abuse charity
Domestic violence
The county's domestic violence coordinator said help is available
A Cornish charity working with men who carry out domestic violence could close because of a funding crisis.

Men and Relationships (MaRs) which aims to change behaviour, while protecting victims in the county, has failed to get lottery money.

Cornwall County Council is considering a fund application, but if that is not forthcoming, MaRs will shut in June.

Nationally, about one in four women will experience domestic violence at some time in their lives.

Daphne Lockwood, Cornwall's domestic violence coordinator, said male violence was a recognised problem, but there was government money available to help address it.

Last year, West Cornwall Women's Aid said it was dealing with an increasing number of referrals for victims of domestic abuse from the police, GPs and social services.
