Domestic violence drive's success
A campaign in north, mid and east Devon to bring more domestic abusers to court is producing good results, police say.

The scheme involves domestic violence officers and crime scene investigators gathering evidence quickly, on top of a standard police response.

Teams operate on Friday and Saturday nights, when most domestic violence incidents are reported.

Four people have been charged over suspected incidents since the scheme was launched two weeks ago.

Victim care

A further five people were arrested and are currently on bail pending further enquiries, with two people receiving cautions for less serious offences.

As well as investigating suspected attacks, victim care and support is offered at the scene to those who have experienced any abuse.

Detective Inspector Bill Pascoe, who is co-ordinating the campaign, said: "The benefits of having a domestic violence officer, crime scene investigator and domestic violence enforcement vehicle at incidents are proving their worth."

The campaign will run until the end of March.
