Tesco car park impasse resolved
Tesco store front
Tesco has withdrawn its injunction against the demolition
The 40m revamp of a Cornish town looks set to go ahead after a dispute over the future of a car park was resolved.

Tesco had objected to the demolition of the multi-storey car park in St Austell in a dispute over its right to access the roof of its town centre store.

Restormel Borough Council said Tesco has withdrawn its injunction that was preventing the demolition of the car park on the Aylmer Square site.

The proposals for the town include restaurants, pubs as well as new homes.

The project has been put together by the Regional Development Agency, Restormel Council and private developers.

Councillor Shirley Polmounter said: "I am pleased that the council has agreed terms with Tesco to secure the withdrawal of the current injunction proceedings on the multi-storey car park.

"This will enable the demolition of the multi-storey and the provision of much needed surface car parking on the site."
