Cornish nursery transforms square
Trafalgar flower display
The display will be transferred to Exmouth seafront
Plants from a Cornish nursery have been used to transform Trafalgar Square for 24 hours.

The London landmark was covered with a carpet of 95,000 plants, each sown by hand and grown by staff at a plant centre near Saltash.

The plants arrived late on Wednesday night and it took the designers five hours to complete their work.

The event, to promote French wine, was an unusual opportunity for Kernock Park Plants to show off their work.

Computer design

The flower bed depict the wines of the Loire Valley.

It is the biggest project the company has taken on, and involves an age old tradition which has been adapted for the computer age.

Computer designer Chris Harnett said: "We've used about 95,000 plants in this display - 75,000 for the main display and 20,000 for the flowers that go round the fountain."

The display will be dismantled on Thursday night, then it will be transported to the seafront at Exmouth where it will be displayed for six weeks.
