Fine weather saw thousands flock to the Royal Cornwall Show |
The 2005 Royal Cornwall Show has enjoyed a record attendance on its first day as thousands of people took advantage of the fine weather. Many more are expected over the next two days.
The show provides a much loved mix of live entertainment and also has plenty of farm animals.
More than 120,000 people attended last year's event and this year there are record entries in all of the main animal sections.
Organisers say the showground is full to capacity with 900 trade stands. The show runs until Saturday.
Showground improvements
As well as the usual highlights including the food and farming pavilion, the flower show and the Cornish crafts marquee, this year's show sees record entries of sheep and cattle, and also in the horse section.
300,000 has been spent on improvements to the showground itself, including new gates and a wider entrance.
Show secretary Christopher Riddle believes visitors will appreciate the improvements.
He said: "The show is one of the biggest events in the South West and as such facilities have to be up to scratch.
"We believe that the improvements we have carried out over the last year, and in recent years, will add to the whole experience of visiting the show."
The RNLI and the Gurkha Welfare Trust are the two nominated charities to benefit from the show this year.
