No lives were lost when the flood waters crashed through Boscastle

The men, women and children were rescued from roof-tops in Boscastle in August by a helicopter crew from 771 Squadron, RNAS Culdrose.

Two families from Kent and East Anglia and two women who worked in Boscastle visitors' centre are visiting RNAS Culdrose to thank the crews.

The devastating floods led to the biggest peacetime rescue in Britain.

A 3m (10ft) wall of water crashed through Boscastle on 16 August, but despite the damage caused by the powerful floodwaters no-one was killed.

Many say that was thanks to the professionalism of the rescue services and the courage of people in the village.

Twelve of those rescued will visit RNAS Culdrose on Tuesday to have another look at the helicopter which winched them to safety as the waters rose around them.

Nearly �200,000 has been raised through an appeal fund which was set up by the Red Cross and North Cornwall District Council.
