The storm which deluged the village on the north Cornwall coast caused damage estimated at more than �250,000 to the path network.

The torrent, caused by torrential rain, uprooted trees and destroyed or damaged beyond repair 20 footbridges.

That prompted Cornwall County Council to close the coast path between Bude and Tintagel.

'Substantial boost'

Now the main part of the coast path between Crackington Haven and the harbour area of Boscastle has been re-opened, the council said.

But many paths around Boscastle and Crackington Haven, as well as further inland, remain closed while damage is assessed.

The coast path attracts thousands of walkers to the area each year, providing a substantial boost to the local economy.
