Stein hotel plans under fire
Architects Design Group's design of Rick Stein's 30 bedroom hotel
The development is known as Project Blue Fin
Plans by TV chef Rick Stein for a 3m hotel at Newquay have been heavily criticised.

The development features a white hotel with a vertical cobalt-blue fin wall, and a beach restaurant.

Restaurant visitors will be transported down the cliff in an inclined lift.

Local councillor Bob Irons says the hotel looks like a glorified block of flats.

The scheme will provide 30 beds, a bar, and sea-view terraces.

'Not impressive'

The restaurant on Tolcarne Beach will offer the celebrity chef's trademark seafood.

Town councillor Mr Irons said the authority supported the hotel and restaurant, but was unhappy about the design.

"Originally the plans said that as you come into Newquay it would provide a boost for the town.

"But it does look like a glorified block of flats. It is not very impressive," he said.

Restormel Borough Council planning officer Mike Lowe said councillors would approve, reject or ask for changes to the Project Blue Fin plans following their meeting on 26 February.

A spokeswoman for Rick Stein said she did not wish to comment on Newquay Town Council's objections.
