Women surfers take to the waves
Female surfer
The event aims to celebrate and encourage female surfers
Female surfers are flocking to Cornwall to take part in the second day of a new women-only surf competition.

The Protest Lusty Ladies Surf contest at Lusty Glaze beach in Newquay aims to celebrate and encourage female surfers of all ages and abilities.

The festival started on Saturday and is in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Week.

The organisers hope the event will raise awareness of women's surfing in the UK whilst encouraging beginners and novices to take part.

The event is being organised in conjunction with Hibiscus Surf School, the first all-female surf school in Europe.

There will be five competition classes, including an Under-14s section and the so-called Virgin round, for females surfers who have never previously surfed at competition level.
