One of the UK's oldest nature reserves is to be visited by the actor and raconteur Stephen Fry on Friday. Mr Fry is going to Woodwalton Fen, Cambridgeshire, in his new role as president of the Great Fen project.
The project aims to safeguard the landscape, and hopes to restore 3,000 hectares of wetland habitat by reconnecting Woodwalton and Holme Fens.
It is also hoped the Great Fen project will attract new visitors to the area and so help the local economy.
Mr Fry, who grew up in East Anglia, said: "The Fens stand as one of the most misunderstood, neglected and extraordinary features of the British landscape.
"I am proud to be involved with a new drive to protect, understand and evangelise this unique part of our country."
Woodwalton Fen is open to the public throughout the year and includes habitats such as purple moor grass meadows, grasses, sedges, herbs and mosses.
Holme Fen contains five hectares of rare acid grassland and heath, in addition to a hectare of remnant raised bog - habitat that would have dominated the area centuries ago.
