An ancient celebration to mark the passing of winter will be held at a Fenland beauty spot on Monday. Chanting, singing, games and lighting fires will mark the festival of Beltane at Flag Fen near Peterborough.
Originally a pagan ceremonial occasion from Europe, the feast of Beltane has changed over the years influenced by different religions and cultures.
The raucous festival starts with dances around a Maypole while playing special games accompanied by music and horns.
Traditionally a May Queen is elected to rule the crops until harvest time.
This is an idea thought to have inspired modern day beauty contests.
The Flag Fen event promises lots of activities for children, including fire making and a clay pot making sessions, a bouncy castle, singing and dancing.
