Thousands of runners have taken part in the 20th Bristol Half Marathon.

The elite runners set-off at 0915 BST followed by wheelchair athletes before the main race started in two waves at 0930 and 1000 BST.

Organisers said they expected more than 15,000 people to take place in Sunday morning's event, which started from Anchor Road near the city centre.

The race was won by Tom Payn, 28, from Winchester Athletic Club, Hampshire, in a time of just under 66 minutes.

Many roads in the area around the 13.1 mile (21.1km) course will be closed until 1500 BST for safety reasons.

Children's Hospice UK and St Peter's Hospice are two charities set to receive sponsorship money from the race.

Elsewhere 1,500 people took part in the Chippenham Half Marathon in Wiltshire.

Dave Mitchinson from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, was the first across the line in a time of 70 minutes and 10 seconds.
