Jobs boost with Big Apple flight
Continental Airlines plane
The service will be operated by a Boeing 757 plane
Around 450 jobs are to be created with the opening of a Bristol-New York flight, says new research.

Continental Airlines will launch the non-stop service from Bristol Airport to New York-Newark on 20 May next year.

The service will be operated by a 172-seat Boeing 757 plane with flight times of around eight hours.

The research, for the airport and the South West Regional Development Agency, says more than 60 jobs will be local and the rest in the West as a whole.

More than 200 more jobs will be generated in the longer term.

An extra 17,000 US visitors are expected in the first year alone with a combined spend of 12.5m, says the study, by Roger Tym and Partners.

Andrew Skipp, managing director at Bristol International Airport said: "The impact study provides more evidence that the new service will bring huge financial benefits for the region and its businesses."
