Ashton Court is home to the city's Balloon Fiesta |
A historic estate in Bristol is to be restored with the help of a 4.4m Heritage Lottery Fund grant. The Ashton Court estate, home to the International Balloon Fiesta and an annual two-day music festival, could be boosted by a variety of new facilities.
They include four new car parks, a new golf pavilion and greens, a pedestrian underpass, a new road access and revamped public toilets.
A spokesman for Bristol City Council said extra staff would be taken on to help carry out major works to the boundary wall and assist in major restoration work.
"This is really wonderful news for Ashton Court Estate and the many, many people who enjoy its picturesque beauty and splendour," said Councillor Anne White.
'Huge boost'
"Upgrading, improving, repairing and restoring Ashton Court will not only increase people's enjoyment of the park, but will also demonstrate the council's continued commitment to providing high-quality leisure facilities.
Peter Wilkinson, Bristol's Parks services manager, added: "I know many people have worked incredibly hard to put together this multi-million pound winning bid.
"It is a huge boost for the estate and the city."
Formerly the family home of the Smyths, Ashton Court Estate is now an 850-acre country park.
