Historic estate set for refurbishment
Ashton Court
Ashton Court is home to the city's Balloon Fiesta
More details have emerged of the plans for a major renovation of a historic Bristol estate.

Ashton Court, home to the city's Balloon Fiesta and an annual two-day music festival, could be boosted by a variety of new facilities worth 8.5m.

The recently unveiled proposals include four new car parks for visitors, a pedestrian underpass under Beggar Bush Lane and alterations to the golf course, including a new pavilion.

The plans are part of extensive restoration work for the whole estate including repairs to the lodges, boundary walls, visitor centre and Mansion Garden.

Bristol City Council, the owners of the estate, are applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund to help pay for the project.

But they still have to get planning permission for the changes from North Somerset Council, who will be consulting people who live nearby.
