About 100 pupils will use the bus service |
Bristol's first American-style yellow school buses take to the road on Tuesday. Children from Henbury School will be the first in the West country to travel to school in a distinctive US-built yellow bus.
The scheme is a joint initiative between public transport operator First and Bristol City Council and aims to help reduce traffic congestion and improve child safety.
About 100 children aged 11 to 16 from Southmead, Brentry and Henbury will eventually use the service each day, many of whom currently travel to and from the school by car.
The bus is specifically designed for the safe transport of children and has seat belts fitted.

It is driven by the same driver every day who is in direct contact with a yellow bus "control room" and school. Councillor Helen Holland said: "One of the key aims of our local transport plan is to reduce congestion.
"We hope that the introduction of the scheme will encourage parents to take a different view about how their child travels from home to school."
Henbury Headteacher Nigel Astley said: "Children at the school have experienced transport difficulties in the past.
"We're delighted with this innovative solution. The children are very excited."
