Yellow bus scheme for Bristol school

A lack of transport poses a problem for some pupils at the school
Bristol school children could soon receive American-style yellow buses in an attempt to cut traffic congestion in the city.

Pupils at Henbury Secondary School are being recommended for a two-year pilot scheme to start in summer.

Under the proposals, the city council would sign a contract with First to provide one bus.

Head teacher Nigel Astley welcomed the scheme.

Transport issue

"Yellow buses are a great idea, he said.

"The students are very excited about the prospect and we are delighted to have been first choice for this pilot."

Councillor Helen Holland added: "The bus scheme promises to be a safe and effective solution to problems associated with the school run.

"One of the aims of our local transport plan is to reduce congestion and this plan promises to contribute towards that goal."

A recent inspection at Henbury identified transport as one of its major issues, with a lack of transport posing a problem for some pupils.
