One-way ring road gets go ahead
Reading IDR
Plans to turn Reading's IDR into a one-way system will go ahead
Controversial plans to turn Reading's ring road into a single one-way system have been given the go-ahead.

Reading Borough Council has decided to press ahead with the Inner Distribution Road (IDR) plan rather than hold a public inquiry.

Wokingham Borough Council had called for an inquiry, claiming that the proposed anti-clockwise IDR would cause knock-on congestion on its roads.

But at a meeting on Monday Reading voted for the project to go ahead.

Wokingham council has also lodged an application for a judicial review, as it opposes the plan claiming it is "flawed".

But Reading Borough Council said a report it commissioned revealed the IDR scheme would have "minimal impact" on the roads of neighbouring authorities.
