Anti-social behaviour orders may prove a solution to the problems |
A hard-line approach is being taken by police towards families of young troublemakers after scores of angry residents called for action. Warnings have been sent to three sets of parents in Woodley in Reading, Berkshire, about their children.
Assaults, underage drinking, drug-taking and threatening behaviour have all been dealt with by police.
More than 50 people complained about the trouble in Brecon Road and the Hurricane Way areas.
'Re-think' behaviour
Police say they were also receiving daily calls about the problems and have since adopted a hard-line approach.
More high-profile patrols have been laid on, anti-social behaviour orders are being considered and fixed penalty notices for excessive noise from motor scooters have been handed out.
Area beat officer Pc Jen Banfield said: "We have tried youth clubs, but youths are not attending as they are alcohol-free venues and the youths want to drink.
"Other partnership work is being done to give the youths something to distract them from this constant cycle of bad behaviour.
"But the troublemakers need to know this will not be "softly softly" and they will be in serious trouble if they don't rethink their behaviour."
