Council plans no-alcohol zones
Plans to force troublemakers to hand over their alcohol are being considered by councillors and police in Berkshire.

West Berkshire Council is sending out surveys to a random selection of residents to see what they think.

The plan would see the council use legislation to earmark zones where the police would have the power to remove alcoholic drinks from people.

The council has vowed to gauge the level of public support before pressing ahead with the plan.

Billy Drummond, the council's executive member for community safety, said: "The drinking of alcohol in public places often fuels anti-social behaviour, which can impact strongly on other members of the public.

"As a result, the council and the police are suggesting that new rules could be introduced and they need to know if residents are in favour of this proposed action."
