Fewer drink-drivers on the road

Police say fewer drivers involved in crashes were drunk
One in eight motorists stopped after a collision during the Christmas period were over the drink-drive limit, Thames Valley Police have revealed.

Police took 585 breath tests at the scenes of crashes during the force's crackdown. Seventy-three drivers tested positive - 12.5% of those stopped.

That marks a reduction on last year's campaign which saw 17% test positive.

In total 1,205 breath tests were taken, with 204 people testing positive, between 18 December and 2 January.

Supt Mick Doyle, of Thames Valley Police Roads Policing, said: "I am encouraged by the decrease in the number of drivers willing to risk drink-driving.

"It is not difficult to avoid drink-driving, take a taxi, stay at a hotel or friend's house or just don't drink.

"Our officers will be continuing with the targeted, intelligence-led policing that has led to the high numbers of drink-drivers being caught recently."
