More than 70 static checks were carried out by North Yorkshire Police |
Officers in North Yorkshire have labelled motorists who drink and drive as "an arrogant minority" who will not be tolerated by police. It comes as figures show 90 drivers were arrested in the county during the force's festive drink-drive campaign.
Over Christmas and New Year extra patrols were carried out by officers.
Road policing Insp Chris Charlton said: "We won't stand for it, and the overwhelming majority of people we serve won't stand for it."
He added: "No-one is prepared to tolerate an arrogant minority who think they have the right to jeopardise other people's safety.
"This particular campaign is over, but there are plenty more lined up.
"North Yorkshire's drink-drive campaign has become a 24/7 operation punctuated by intensive blitzes launched without warning at locations right across the county."
The number of people breath-tested during the campaign had fallen compared to last year, but more people were arrested.
Insp Charlton said: "Fewer tests but more failures, that is very disappointing.
"This force will be continuing to take a hard line with anyone who combines alcohol and driving."
