Jane Longhurst was murdered by a internet porn user

Graham Coutts, 35, was jailed for life in February after strangling Jane Longhurst to satisfy sexual fantasies.

Reading MP Martin Salter said 168 MPs had signed a motion calling for restrictions on access to such sites.

The killer of the 31-year-old from Brighton was an "avid user" of such websites, Mr Salter said.

Commons Leader Peter Hain said: "The whole House shares your absolute abhorrence at this obscenity and the way in which internet sites can promote such behaviour."

Mr Hain said the Government had been working closely with an internet watchdog, internet companies and telecoms operators to increase their ability to prevent children accessing "explicit adult material of this obscene kind" by accident.

Solicitor General Harriet Harman has already lent her support to the campaign after meeting the mother of the murdered teacher, who was brought up in Reading.

Liz Longhurst, 72, has campaigned for tougher laws since Coutts was jailed.

During Coutts' trial at Lewes Crown Court, jurors heard he had looked at graphic pornography featuring women being choked shortly before strangling Ms Longhurst.
