Jane Longhurst's mother wants violent internet porn outlawed |
The mother of murdered teacher Jane Longhurst has launched a national petition calling for action to block violent internet sites. Liz Longhurst backed councillors in Reading in their campaign to shut down sites such as those visited by Jane's killer, Graham Coutts.
Since Coutts was jailed for life last month, Mrs Longhurst has campaigned vigorously to block sadistic sites.
Coutts, from Hove, enjoyed porn which showed women being strangled.
During his trial, Lewes Crown Court heard how Coutts had viewed the sites hours before he murdered Jane, 31, from Brighton.
He also admitted to having a seven-year addiction to online violent pornography.
On Monday, Mrs Longhurst, 72, signed the petition in her home town of Reading, where Jane was brought up and went to school.
She was accompanied by local councillor Viki Lloyd, who said she had been heartened that so many women had agreed to sign it.
Mrs Longhurst has been trying to persuade Mr Blunkett to change the law so that porn websites are classified and outlawed.
She met him last week, along with other members of her family, to discuss the link with her daughter's murder and the use of such sites.
Mr Blunkett is currently visiting Washington DC and Boston, to urge the US to act with the UK to combat violent porn sites.
