Harriet Harman who has given her support to Jane's mother Liz.

Ms Harman gave her backing after meeting the mother of murdered teacher Jane Longhurst.

The MP delivered a letter of support to Liz Longhurst, 72, during a visit to Reading, Berkshire, on Monday.

Miss Longhurst was murdered by Graham Coutts, a Hove musician, who was obsessed with pornography featuring asphyxiation.

Mrs Longhurst wants websites featuring images of sexual violence outlawed.

Ms Harman said she was "pleased" to be able to offer her support to the campaign and described violent internet porn as "a menace".

Miss Longhurst's family has campaigned for tougher laws since Coutts, 35, was jailed for life for her murder last month.

During Coutts' trial at Lewes Crown Court, jurors heard he had looked at graphic pornography featuring women being choked, shortly before strangling the 31-year-old.

Earlier this month on International Women's Day, Mrs Longhurst - who launched the Jane Longhurst Campaign Against Violent Pornography - signed a petition calling for a ban.

The family has also met Home Secretary David Blunkett to ask for his help in getting websites on necrophilia and asphyxiation taken down.
