Supermarket chain Waitrose is to begin selling milk from UK-reared buffalo at two stores in Bedfordshire. The milk, from a 400-strong herd in Bedfordshire, is said have 43% less cholesterol and 40% more protein than ordinary cow's milk.
Waitrose said it could help some people who are allergic to cow's milk and those with conditions such as eczema.
The milk comes from a farm owned by Nick Griffin, from Leighton Buzzard, who imported his herd of water buffalo from Romania in 1998.

It will go on sale in Waitrose stores in Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes from Wednesday priced �1.60 a litre as an example of its locally-produced range.
Waitrose spokesman Graham Cassie said: "This is the first time that Waitrose has ever sold buffalo milk.
"We are keen to ensure that the best local foods are available to our customers and we are confident that many customers will be delighted to find it is now available in their local supermarket."
Mr Griffin said: "Buffalo are far more friendly and placid than cows.
"I often have open days for visitors and the buffalo cows queue up to have their coats groomed."
