Run-over Pc seeking compensation
Pc Guy Miller outside court
Pc Guy Miller has returned to operational duties with the force
A Kent police officer who was badly injured when he was run over by his own patrol car has launched a bid for compensation at the High Court.

Pc Guy Miller, 36, was in a coma for two months after the incident in Kings Hill, Kent, in December 2003.

Ricky Hales, now 21, of Deptford, south-east London, was jailed for 15 years in 2004 for attempted murder.

A ruling on whether Mr Miller can claim compensation from the insurance company responsible for his car was delayed.

Stolen motorbike

A second man - Maxwell Lancaster, 18, of Catford - was jailed for seven years for aggravated vehicle taking.

Mr Miller, from Kingsnorth, near Ashford, suffered multiple fractures and head wounds in the incident.

It happened as he tried to arrest the two men after they were seen riding a stolen motorbike at speeds of up to 150 mph.

Hales and Lancaster abandoned the bike after a police chase and Mr Miller pursued them on foot.

The two men were then seen inside the police officer's car with Mr Miller pulling the doors and banging on the rear window to let them know he was there, before Hales reversed the patrol car over the officer.

Despite his injuries Mr Miller has been able to resume his police duties.
