Officer 'run over by his own car'
Pc Guy Miller

A construction worker has told a court he saw a Kent police officer run over by two men in his own police car.

Pc Guy Miller was seriously injured in the incident in Kings Hill, near West Malling, on 10 December 2003.

Ricky Hales, 19, from Deptford, denies charges of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to avoid arrest.

Maxwell Thomas Lancaster, 18, from Catford, denies two charges including aggravated vehicle-taking.

Maidstone Crown Court heard on Tuesday how the father-of-four had been trying to arrest two suspects at the time.

Witness saw scuffle

Speaking for the prosecution, building worker John Stanton told the court he had seen two men on a motorcycle pursued by a police officer in a patrol car.

He said there had been a scuffle and later he had seen the men inside the car with the officer pulling the doors and banging on the rear window.

The car had reversed back and Mr Stanton said he realised the officer was down on the ground.

He said the officer then emerged from under the front wheels.

Mr Lancaster denies allowing himself to be carried in a police car.

Mr Hales has admitted handling a stolen motorbike and taking a police car.

The trial continues.
