Published on Tuesday, the study shows that over the past three years the number of people killed and seriously injured in Norfolk fell by 56%.

Cambridgeshire was not far behind with a 55% cut, while Northamptonshire's figure was reduced by 46%.

The Thames Valley recorded 43% fewer fatalities and serious injuries.

The report said there was insufficient data to produce estimates for Essex, although there had been reductions.

Figures were not available for other areas which had joined the government's camera-partnership scheme since the study began.

The figures recorded in the eastern region compare favourably with the national average of 40%.
