| Monday, 11 November, 2002, 11:15 GMT Runner rewarded for fundraising ![]() Jane received her award from actor Richard Wilson A woman from Leeds with terminal cancer has been rewarded after taking up long-distance running to raise money for charity. Jane Tomlinson, 38, from Rothwell, was given an "Unsung Hero" award at a ceremony in London on Sunday night, hosted by the Celebrities Guild of Great Britain. Ms Tomlinson started running to raise money for Cancer Research UK and hopes to hit the �100,000 mark by the end of the year. She has completed the London Marathon and Triathlon and in October crossed the finish line of the Great North Run in under two hours.
Jane confirmed the Great North Run would be her last fund-raiser after completing the 13-mile race in October. The mother-of-three is undergoing treatment at St James's Hospital in Leeds for a tumour in her lung and secondary cancers in her chest and bones. She was initially diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26 and thought it was conquered after a mastectomy operation. But 10 years later another tumour was discovered in her chest. |
