Jane completes her final challenge
Jane Tomlinson
Jane Tomlinson beat her two hour target
A woman from Leeds who has terminal cancer has successfully completed her last fund-raising event.

Jane Tomlinson, who is 38 and from the Rothwell area of the city, finished the Great North Run in Newcastle in one hour 51 minutes.

She was running with her husband Mike who came in four minutes behind her.

Six months ago Jane completed the London Marathon and in August crossed the line ahead of half the competitors in the London Triathlon.

She is fantastic, she is absolutely brilliant

Jane and Mike hope that their efforts this year will have raised 100,000 for Cancer Research UK.

She put planned chemotherapy treatment on hold until later this week so she could take part in the 13 mile race.

Afterwards she confirmed that this will be her last fund-raising run.

"I meant to finish in under the two hours I set myself and I'm delighted," she said.

"I'm so tired and ache everywhere but it was a fantastic run.

"The atmosphere was terrific and there's people lining the course all the way around and they are really encouraging.

"It's been a brilliant day."

Hugging his wife, Mike said: "She is fantastic, she is absolutely brilliant."

Breast cancer

Jane, who has three children, thought she had conquered cancer when she had a mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26.

But 10 years later a tumour was found in her lung and then secondary cancers were found in her chest and bones.

She is undergoing treatment at St James's Hospital in Leeds.

But doctors say her condition is terminal.
