Cancer patient prepares for latest challenge
Jane Tomlinson
Jane has already completed the London triathlon
Marathon runner Jane Tomlinson is preparing for her latest challenge - taking part in the Great North Run.

Jane, who is from Rothwell in Leeds, has terminal cancer.

She will take part in the Tyneside event with her husband Mike.

So far this year she has completed the London Marathon and the London Triathlon.

Jane is the 2002 Yorkshire Woman of Achievement

But she says this will be her last major event.

"It will be a special day for me, being able to run alongside Mike," she says.

"Although I'm confident I can beat him, he seems to think differently!

"I want to show other cancer patients that the only barriers to doing something like this are in themselves."

Fund raising

Jane is 38 and has three children.

She has already raised more than 40,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Taking part in the 13 mile run on Sunday could bring this to 100,000.

At the age of 26 Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy.

Achievement award

Ten years later a tumour in Jane's lung became apparent when it grew so large it made her breathless.

A scan on her chest and bones revealed multiple secondary cancers.

She is undergoing treatment at St James's Hospital in Leeds although doctors say her condition means she does not have long to live.

Earlier this year, Jane was presented with the Yorkshire Woman of Achievement Award.
