A healing garden designed by Prince Charles in memory of the Queen Mother has won a medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The garden, which the prince showed to the Queen at a preview on Monday, won a silver medal in the Best Show Garden category.

Put together in collaboration with garden designer Jinny Blom, it features medicinal herbs and shrubs and kitchen plants.

The world-famous show opened to the public on Tuesday.

Second medal

A special preview on Monday was attended by the Queen and numerous celebrities where the prince took his mother on a personal tour.

The Healing Garden has been constructed over eight months.

His creation contains 125 varieties of medicinal herbs and shrubs to aid everything from bruises to stress.

It is the second year the prince has scooped a silver medal, after his Islamic garden was acclaimed at the show last year.

The Queen has missed only one Chelsea Flower Show in her 50 years as monarch and was presented with a bouquet of golden yellow roses named Gracious Queen to mark her Golden Jubilee.

The Chelsea Flower Show was given its name when it moved to the area in 1913.

Prior to that it was held in Kensington and was known as the Royal Horticultural Show.

The show is open to the public from Tuesday - Thursday from 0800 BST to 2000 BST and on Friday from 0800 BST to 1730 BST.
