PM announces Afghan troop increase

The Prime Minister has announced that 500 more British troops are being sent to Afghanistan to support the 9,000 UK service personnel who are already out there.

Gordon Brown told MPs that Britain cannot walk away from Afghanistan when the safety of the UK is at stake and the threat from Al Qaeda still remains.

David Cameron also paid tribute to those who died and remembered the lives that could have been lived.
