Defence chief on troop increases

Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, has given his reaction to the decision to send an extra 500 forces personnel to Afghanistan.

The prime minister made the announcement in the House of Commons, after paying a "solemn" tribute to the soldiers who had died during the parliamentary recess.
