Taliban head Mehsud 'may be dead'

US and Pakistani officials have said they are checking reports that the leader of the Taliban in Pakistan, Baitullah Mehsud, has been killed.

Pakistani interior minister Rehman Malik said that information was "pouring in" that he was dead, but that there was no conclusive evidence.
