'Hundreds' killed in Sri Lanka

Doctors working in Sri Lanka's war zone say hundreds of people have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded by heavy shelling which, they say, appears to have come from government-held territory.

The armed forces claim any casualties have been inflicted by the Tamil Tiger rebels firing from within the zone they control.

Charles Haviland reports from Colombo.
