Mind-control sex swap for fly

Scientists have genetically modified flies so that females can perform male courtship rituals.

The research shows that male and female flies have similar "wiring" in their brains, even though their behaviour differs in nature.

This footage shows typical sexual behaviour in the insects: a male fly courts a female by producing a song from its vibrating wing.
