As South Africa prepares to host the football World Cup, School Report is having a month of sport reporting and the first "School Report Sports Day".

On Thursday 1 July we are planning a live School Report radio programme for students to call in to "talk sport" with other School Reporters from around the world.

School Report Sports Day radio show will be available to listen to on the School Report website.

To be involved, you need to have been part of School Report 2010.

Get reporting

We want School Reporters to take part by producing written, audio and video reports about sport and put them on your school website - just like you do for the annual March News Day.

The BBC News School Report website will have a dedicated "School Report Sports Day 2010" section which will link to all the schools involved.

And we will try and showcase some of the most original and news-worthy stories across the wider BBC.

Football fever

So are your students fanatical about football? If so perhaps they can report on the significance the "beautiful game" across the world.

Or to coincide with the World Cup in South Africa (Friday 11 June - Sun 11 July) School Reporters can adopt one of the 32 competing teams and become "experts" on that specific country - from North Korea to the Netherlands, Spain to Slovenia.

And it does not have to all be about the football - perhaps some students would prefer to research and report on the unique culture, language or geography of a competing country.

Schools can make use of an existing international link (for example, a school twinning relationship) or choose a country which relates to a local diaspora community.

Sports stories

School Reports Sports Day occurs during National School Sport Week, in England and Wales, and coincides with the final week of the Wimbledon tennis championship.

School Reporters can reflect any sporting stories or events happening in their school, such as commentate on their school sports day, or reflect a sport event in their local community.

Masterclass on sport

Maybe there is an up-and-coming athlete in your school or students or teachers who compete professionally?

Or perhaps you are able to interview a local sports star or visit a sporting venue near you?
