Thousands of Elvis Presley fans have gathered at his Graceland home in Memphis for a candlelight vigil to mark the 30th anniversary of the singer's death. Handmade tributes from around the world lined the driveway and the memorial garden at the Graceland mansion where the rock 'n' roll star is buried. Elvis Presley impersonator Paul Rouse, from the UK, performs during the Images of the King competition in Memphis. Each performer sings fifteen minutes of Presley songs. Fans in Tokyo remember the singer, otherwise known as 'The King', by laying flowers outside a local shop which specialises in Elvis memorabilia. For the past 10 years, fan and Elvis impersonator Manuel Toiyibee has performed at a Bangkok bar in Thailand. Patrizia Serra travelled all the way from Italy with her homemade costume to join other fans paying tribute to the US star during Elvis Week. Soaring temperatures in Memphis did not deter fans from dressing up as their icon, who became famous for his bejewelled white jumpsuits in later years. The vigil for the star, who died in 1977 aged 42, will be followed by a tribute concert featuring footage of Elvis and a live performance by former band members. Everyone who has turned up to camp along the Elvis Presley Boulevard will have the chance to pay their respects at the burial site. Many queued for hours. Some fans go to tremendous lengths to prove their devotion to the singer, who introduced many of them to rock and roll for the first time. The annual tribute ensures Elvis continues to live on - through his music, films and countless impersonators.
