The Bafta TV Awards have been held at the London Palladium, with Jim Broadbent winning best actor for the drama Longford.

Victoria Wood collected two of the prestigious golden masks for ITV1's Housewife, 49 - best actress and top single drama.

Last-minute adjustments were made after the team behind The Royle Family won the prize for the year's best sitcom.

Earlier, Ricky Tomlinson, Sue Johnston and Craig Cash were joined on stage by co-star Liz Smith, 85, who played Nanna.

The Fellowship was presented to writer Richard Curtis by comedian Stephen Fry, recognising work such as Blackadder.

"After 21 years, to see them off is fantastic." Medical series Casualty beat Coronation Street and EastEnders to a prize.

There was also a Bafta for ex-EastEnders star Ross Kemp, whose profiles of several major gangs was best factual series.

Little Britain Abroad and The Catherine Tate Show lost out on best comedy show, won by That Mitchell and Webb Look.
