GST introduction may be delayed
Jersey's Goods and Services Tax could be delayed, but only by five days.

Treasury Minister Terry le Sueur says he is proposing the delay after concerns from shops that the tax would come in on a bank holiday.

The long-awaited 3% tax has always been due to come in to force in the island at the beginning of May.

But recently retailers pointed out that 1 May is just before a bank holiday weekend, which would put great pressure on them to get the changes in place.

So Mr le Sueur says he is prepared to put the date back until 6 May.

Clive Spears from the Jersey Chamber of Commerce says it is a "welcome" move which will make introducing the 3% tax much easier for his members.
